Before Your Tour

Bring your camera and any lenses you have, especially the ones you are most comfortable using. A tripod is highly recommended for long exposures, low light, and more precise compositions, and tripods with quick release plates are also available for rent if you prefer to travel lighter. Wear comfortable shoes suitable for sand, rocks, or uneven coastal terrain, and bring layers since temperatures can drop quickly near the water, especially around sunrise or after sunset. No highly specialized gear is required.

Not at all. Tours are tailored to your skill level, from complete beginners picking up a camera for the first time to experienced photographers looking to refine specific techniques. Arnel adjusts his guidance based on where you are and what you want to achieve.

After booking, Arnel will confirm your specific meeting point based on the session location and that day's conditions. All tours meet within a short walk of free or low-cost parking. Exact details are provided before your session.

Any camera with manual exposure controls will work well. DSLRs, mirrorless cameras, and even capable smartphones can produce great results with the right guidance. A tripod is especially helpful for long exposures, low light, and more precise compositions. Tripods and quick release plates are also available for rent, so participants can travel lighter. Booking and Cancellation

Use the contact form on the Contact page, or email Arnel directly. Tell him which tour you're interested in and your preferred dates. He'll get back to you within a few hours to confirm availability and details.

Cancellations made 7 or more days before the session receive a 90% refund. Cancellations within 7 days of the session are non-refundable but may be rescheduled subject to availability. Please see the full Terms and Conditions for details.

Yes. Please give as much notice as possible if you need to change your date. Rescheduling within 7 days of the session is subject to availability and is at Luminous Tours' discretion. Please see the Terms and Conditions for full details.

San Diego's coastal weather is generally excellent for photography, and overcast skies, fog, and even stormy conditions can often create especially dramatic images. If conditions are genuinely unsafe or unsuitable for the tour, Arnel will contact you to reschedule at no penalty to you.

During the Tour

Yes. All Luminous Tours experiences are bespoke and private. It is just you, anyone you bring*, and Arnel. There are no groups and no shared sessions.

Yes, as long as all participating attendees are interested in photography. There is an additional fee for each participating attendee. A spouse or significant other of the original participant is welcome to tag along at no extra charge if they are not participating in the photography instruction. Children are not allowed. Please see the Terms and Conditions for full details.

Most pier tours are 2 hours. The San Diego Pictorial is 1 hour. Special arrangement experiences have custom durations based on the destination and your goals. All times are confirmed during booking.

Yes. Real-time guidance on camera settings is included in every tour. Arnel will help you understand exposure, ISO, aperture, shutter speed, lens choice, and other important settings as they relate to the light, the scene, and the creative opportunities in front of you. This hands-on guidance is one of the most valuable parts of the experience.
